2020 P Emergency Production Silver Eagle MS 70 FDOI Mercanti Signed
The 2020(S) “Struck At San Francisco” Silver Eagles represent a moment in time that the world was aligned with the goal of overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic. In the final months of 2020, the US Mint’s production of American Silver Eagles is still struggling to keep up with collector demand due to production slow-downs brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In an attempt to keep up with collector demand, the US Mint authorized production of 1-oz American Silver Eagle bullion coins at the San Francisco Mint. Typically, this bullion production would be handled by the West Point Mint. Although the 2020(S) Struck at San Francisco pedigree Silver Eagles do not have as low of a mintage as the 2020(P) Struck at Philadelphia coins produced earlier in 2020, the mintage of 2020(S) San Francisco Struck Silver Eagles is miniscule compared to the bullion American Silver Eagle that are struck annually by the West Point Mint.
NGC felt the limited production of Silver Eagles struck by the San Francisco Mint in the fall of 2020 was significant enough to apply the pedigree of “Emergency Production” to each NGC label. As mentioned above, the San Francisco Mint striking these bullion Silver Eagles was directly tied to the Covid-19 pandemic and production of bullion American Silver Eagles not able to keep up with the extremely high demand they’re experiencing. Each coin has been certified and graded by NGC achieving perfect MS70 condition with an FDI designation
