The New Orleans Mint produced silver dollars exclusively this year. Large quantities of the 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollars were either stored at the mint or shipped to the Treasury Building in Washington, D.C., or in 1929 to the Philadelphia Mint for long-term storage. Large quantities were released from the Washington vault beginning in the 1930s. In October 1962 through 1964 millions more coins were released from the Philadelphia Mint, along with the 1883-O and 1884-O dollars. Quality varies, with the strike ranging from flat at the centers to fairly sharp. Luster ranges from frosty to grainy or dull. No proofs were produced here.
